MAN'S BEST FRIENDS ...... OR ...... I JUST LOVE YOU FOR YOUR CAKE NOT YOUR COUNSEL

The Bible has much to say about friends. Here is a picture of two of my "best friends" waiting for a smorsel (I know, made up word) of the new cake we had tonight. The Bible does not name our pets as our best friends but does tell us many things about the friend relationship. Here are a couple of thoughts tonight.

Proverbs 27:9-10
Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel. Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

A charge given to us to be faithful and constant to our friends. And to be willing to do anything within our power to assist them. It is good to have a friend, a best friend, who we can be free with, and with whom we may communicate all deep matters with. The Bible says "counsel".

A good reason why we should value true friendship is simply because of the pleasure of it. The Scripture mentions the sweetness in conversing and consulting with our friends. It is like ointment and perfume, which are very pleasant to the smell and uplifting to the heart. It rejoices the heart; the burden of care is made lighter by being able to unload to our friend, and it is a great comfort to us to have our friends thoughts and advice concerning our affairs. The beauty of friendship lies not in all the fun and games, although that is enjoyable, but in wise and steady counsel, faithful advice, sincerely given and without flattery.

I find it very fulfilling when a friend talks to me as a friend. Not just smooth and flattering words, but honest and open communication. Telling me the truth that I need to hear. Trusting that a friend will be honest with you make the relationship that much stronger. A true friend will reside in your heart and be willing through counsel and advice to say what needs to be heard.

I have friends that have been blessed this week and I rejoice with them. I have friends that have been hurting this week and I hurt with them. I have friends that needed to hear common sense truth this week and I have tried to share that with them, all along the way loving them.

Take your friends before the throne of grace and beg intercession through Jesus Christ our Lord. When you need help from a friend, ask them.

Be Christ to someone this week and continue to build those friendships by leading others to Jesus.

Be an Example,
Love, Bro Allen
